The JG Graves Woodland Discovery Centre was constructed in the Ecclesall Woods Sawmill as part of the Sheffield Woodlands Environment Enhancement Project. The centre provides educational, information and refreshment facilities for the many visitors to the site.
The centre has been designed to blend in with the surrounding woodlands. The roof of the main building has a large ‘ski slope’ style roof and was originally intended to be waterproofed with metal sheets, however, it was quickly realised that this would be too expensive.
The client then turned to Polyroof to provide a cost-effective alternative that was also faithful to the original intended appearance. Requiring a rapid solution for the waterproofing of the roof, the BBA approved Polyroof 185 system with Lead Roll effect trims was chosen for the project.
High quality plywood boards were fixed to the support beams of the roof to form the ski-slope shape followed by GRP trims to create the lead roll replica finish. The Polyroof 185 system was then applied to quickly form a seamless and highly durable waterproofing membrane. Carrying a 20 year insurance backed materials and labour guarantee as well as providing an attractive and cost-effective alternative to metal, the client was most satisfied with the result.
