With its fully cold-applied, flame-free installation with zero nuisance odours, works were able to be carried whilst day to day operations at the fire station continued. The system’s EPD certification and Carbon Neutral stats meant the client was able to measure and limit its environmental impact during the works. Protec Evolve’s extended 30 year durability rating (BBA Cert No. 09/4676 PS2) offers superior life cycle costings and, coupled with Polyroof’s Trusted Accredited System Guarantee, provided total peace of mind for the client.

This project focused on addressing persistent issues with the single-ply roof originally installed on the fire station back in 2016. Despite being a relatively recent install, ongoing leaks have plagued its functionality, posing challenges to the working functionality of the station. Through meticulous site assessments by both Polyroof Technical Services and Polyroof Approved Contractors CBD Roofing, the root causes of the leaks were identified and a bespoke specification produced. With a strict 5 week time frame, and the building needing to remain operational at all times, the CBD Team were well up against it to get this picturesque project on the Welsh coast complete.

With the station serving as a critical hub for emergency response, any restrictions to working conditions had to be meticulously planned to avoid compromising public safety. Additionally, the limited space available for site provisions posed logistical constraints, necessitating efficient utilisation of resources and meticulous coordination among the project team. Intermittent weather conditions further compounded these challenges, requiring flexible scheduling and proactive measures to mitigate potential delays and ensure the project stayed on track.

Despite these obstacles, the CBD Roofing team remained committed to delivering a solution that not only addressed the existing issues but also upheld the station’s operational effectiveness and resilience for years to come.

To address the client’s concerns and provide a long-lasting solution, it was proposed to overplay the existing single-ply membrane, characterised by numerous joint laps and susceptibility to leaks, with a seamless waterproofing system. After careful consideration, the certified Carbon Neutral Polyroof Protec Evolve System was chosen to not only offer a 25-year guarantee, but also avoided 6,043 kgCO2e of carbon emissions.

This innovative addition provided a safe and durable surface for maintenance personnel to access the roof areas without compromising the waterproofing integrity of the main system.

The choice of the Protec Evolve resin system played a pivotal role in facilitating meeting the stringent five week project time frame, owing to its efficiency and ease of installation. Throughout the duration of the project, the roof underwent meticulous inspections by the Polyroof technical department at various stages, ensuring strict compliance with the specified requirements and guaranteeing the effectiveness of the solution implemented. This diligent oversight helped identify and address any potential issues promptly, reaffirming the durability and reliability of the newly installed roofing system. The finished roof underwent a thorough inspection by Polyroof Technical Services, the roof was officially signed off for guarantee, leaving the client exceedingly pleased with both the service and the product delivered.

The system also provided a low odour installation for any fire station operatives working on site during the installation. The waterproofing solution was complemented by the installation of new outlets and terminations at upstand abutments to further enhance waterproofing integrity. Given the presence of various mechanical and electrical units as well as solar panels on the roof, a non-slip walkway system was also introduced in the form of Polyroof ProGrip.

The carbon emissions of Protec Evolve are fully offset using Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) greenhouse gas credits which support renewable energy projects around the globe. By using Protec Evolve on this project 6,043 kgCO2e of carbon emissions was avoided. The equivalent to one of the following.
