The Challenge
Castell Alun High School was experiencing issues around water ingress on multiple roof areas across the site. Recognising the need for rectification of the failed flat roofing systems, Flintshire County Council once again enlisted the services of their Welsh flat roofing partner, Polyroof, to alleviate the problems. The existing waterproof coverings on both roof areas consisted of built-up felt, with one of the roofs also being covered with chippings. Both coverings were in a poor and aged condition, with ingress reported to have been affecting the interior of the buildings below.
The Solution
The Client required minimal disruption to the delivery of the school’s curriculum, therefore, Polyroof’s Technical Team recommended the ultra-low odour Protec Evolve System. This is ideally suited to installation within sensitive environments where the risk of disruption is high. Complete with RapidCure technology for extremely fast application in as little as 30 minutes, this resulted in significantly reduced downtime and facilitated operational efficiency. The refurbishment of both roof areas entailed Designed Roof Systems Ltd stripping the failed felt system and wet PIR insulation, prior to the installation of the Protec Evolve BUR System.
The Result
Thanks to the Protec Evolve System, the two roof areas are now fully waterproofed for many years to come, with full BBA-certification for at least 30 years. Due to the rapid application capabilities of the System, this enabled the contractors to meet the Client’s strict turnaround requirements, allowing the school’s operations to continue undisturbed.
