The Challenge
Due to ongoing issues with the roof of a temporary classroom at Golftyn Primary School, Flintshire County Council looked towards Polyroof to alleviate the water ingress and ensure adequate waterproof performance for the roof area. Comprised of a single-ply membrane, which was in a poor and aged condition, numerous issues had been reported within the interior of the building, causing disruption to the school’s teaching programme.
The Solution
Due to the live operational environment, the remedial measures needed to accommodate the school’s schedule and cause as little disruption as possible. Polyroof’s Technical Team recommended the ultra-low odour Protec Evolve System to refurbish the 100m2 classroom roof. Encompassing RapidCure technology, with cure times as little as 30 minutes, this allows the waterproofing membrane to be installed in a matter of hours rather than days. Polyroof-approved contractor, Designed Roof Systems Ltd, removed the failed roof covering before installing a new plywood deck, which was primed with Polyroof SA Primer, before the application of the Polyroof SA Foil-Faced Carrier Layer. This ensured the substrate was fully prepared for the new waterproofing membrane, which is fully cold applied thus negating health and safety concerns around hot works.
The Result
Following the application of the Protec Evolve System, the classroom at Golftyn Primary School is now fully waterproofed, providing high performing, seamless protection to the roof area. With full BBA-certification for a lifespan of at least 30 years, the school’s operations can safely continue without the concern of leaks arising.
