As one of the busiest train stations in the UK, handling nearly 60 million travelers a year, it was imperative that the iconic Waterloo Station remained open to the public at all times during the refurbishment of the roof guttering system.
Engineered for enhanced flexibility, making it ideal for coating industrial gutters, Polyroof’s Protec Evolve System was specified for the project. With its fully cold-applied, flame-free installation, with zero nuisance odours, works were able to be carried out whilst day to day operations at the train station continued. Protec Evolve’s extended 30-year durability rating (BBA Cert No. 09/4676 PS2) offered superior life cycle costings and, coupled with Polyroof’s Trusted Accredited System Guarantee, provided total peace of mind for the client.
The Challenge
It was highlighted during the survey that the existing waterproof gutter coverings were aged and suffering from failings such as flaking of the solar reflective paint. Numerous leaks had been reported over the recent months, despite various localised repairs having been carried out. Furthermore, it was noted that there were areas of standing water present within the gutters.
The solution
Polyroof Approved Contractor, Everlast Group, began by preparing the surface area of the guttering, clearing any debris and removing the standing water. Once clean, primer was applied to the four central gutters to help form excellent adhesion to the existing substrate. Two coats of the BBA Approved Protec Evolve System were then applied to waterproof the guttering, allowing 30-60 minutes cure time in between coats.
The project was efficiently managed by both the contractor Everlast Group and regular Polyroof Technical Services visits to ensure that every aspect of the project from start to finish was carried out within the client’s specification, time frame and budget. The Polyroof Technical Services team conducted a detailed final inspection highlighting the high-quality of workmanship from the Everlast team which lead to the client gaining the trusted Polyroof Accredited System Guarantee.
