The roof area above the offices of a leading bank Douglas, Isle of Man, was in an aged condition and suffering from persistant leaks. The roof was complex in its design, consisting of low pitched profiled metal sheets to the main area as well as galvanised steel valley gutters, barrel roof sections and parapet walls. Water ingress was widespread across the area and extensive localised repairs had been carried out in an effort to prevent the leaks, however these were failing.
The facilities management company responsible for the building now required a waterproofing system that could provide long-lasting and total protection from leaks for all areas of the roof. For their peace of mind, the client also stipulated that a 20 year guarantee was needed.
Being aware of Polyroof’s versatile range of seamless roofing systems, the client contacted Polyroof Technical Services with the aim of finding a waterproofing solution that could treat the roof in its entirety.
Following discussions the BBA-approved Elastex 20 Year System was specified for the roof area. Being highly flexible, totally seamless and able to form an excellent adhesive bond with metal substrates, Elastex was ideal for rejuvenating the main roof and gutters.
Areas of flaking and peeling Plastisol-coating were cut-back and the rust was ground out and treated with a converter. The Elastex system was then installed, creating a seamless waterproofing barrier that encapsulated the profiled roof sheets and gutter areas. With the parapet walls and barrel roofs also receiving the Polyroof treatment, the client received a total waterproofing solution that will provide protection from the elements for decades to come.
