We are proud to announce that the expertise of two Polyroof approved contractors, Capital Roofing Ltd and MLG UK Ltd, were recognised at the LRWA Awards 2025. Each receiving Highly Commended Awards for their expertise across two iconic Polyroof liquid waterproofing projects, these commendations were awarded in a glittering ceremony and gala dinner at Liverpool’s Titanic Hotel on Wednesday 26th March.
As one of the fastest growing sectors in the UK roofing industry, the LRWA Awards are the pinnacle the liquid waterproofing division’s calendar, providing the opportunity to celebrate excellence in quality of installation, along with professionalism, and workmanship. 23 projects were shortlisted for this year’s awards, covering five different categories, with each highlighting an array of complexities, detailing, and techniques.
Highly Commended Award for Liquid Waterproofing Project of the Year <1000m2: The Savoy Hotel, Capital Roofing Ltd
Refurbishing one of London’s most remarkable landmarks presented a significant challenge, due to its live operational environment and prime location within the bustling capital city. This was of little consequence to the team at Capital Roofing, who, being well versed in the application of Polyroof liquid waterproofing membranes, knew of the perfect solution to meet the Client’s waterproofing requirements with minimal disruption. They specified the ultra-low odour Protec Evolve System to overlay The Savoy’s aging canopy roof above the main entrance and bring it back up to the high standards that this establishment has long been renowned for. The low odour nature of the System meant works could be carried out whilst the hotel remained fully operational, mitigating the risk of lost revenue for the Client.
Throughout the project, Capital Roofing were required to navigate the numerous complexities present across the canopy roof area, including eight rooflights, air conditioning units, and ornate detailing on several of the wall abutments. The capabilities of Polyroof’s advanced liquid roofing technology, however, enabled the contractors to achieve a fully waterproof finish that will serve the needs of The Savoy for many years to come.
Highly Commended Award Liquid Waterproofing Project of the Year >1000m2: Spectrum House, MLG UK Ltd
MLG UK were faced not only with rectifying the splits, delamination, and pooling water present on the gigantic 25,000m2 roof at Spectrum House, but they also needed to ensure the specified solution maintained the Grade II listed building’s status as a pop culture icon, having served as the backdrop for the 1985 James Bond film, A View to a Kill. Designed by the legendary Sir Norman Foster and completed in 1983, MLG UK were all too aware of the importance around paying homage to this historical landmark and looked towards Polyroof for a solution.
Due to the roof area’s sheer size, a thermographic survey was conducted to efficiently identify areas of the roof that required waterproofing, as opposed to stripping the entire build up. Polyroof’s Protec System was subsequently specified to provide the required remedial works and futureproof the roof and protect this iconic building. The success of this project would not have been possible without MLG UK’s installation technique, which along with the advanced technology of the Protec System, enabled the contractors to address the large volume intricate roof detailing, which included 59 suspension anchor points and 42 rooflights.
Craig Holden, Commercial Manager at Polyroof, said: “We are overjoyed at both Capital Roofing and MLG UK’s success at this year’s LRWA Awards. As two highly valued members of Polyroof’s network of independently approved contractors, we are very proud to see their expertise recognised with a Highly Commended Award for their work on two iconic liquid waterproofing projects, The Savoy Hotel and Spectrum House.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who was involved in these fantastic projects, from the contractors to the team at Polyroof, and everyone else who had a special role to play in bringing these projects over the line. Without their unwavering dedication and support, these awards would not have been possible. Additionally, many thanks the LRWA for hosting such a spectacular day.”
