We are excited to announce that Polyroof has been shortlisted for yet another prestigious industry accolade, this time for the NFRC UK Roofing Awards 2025. As one of the largest celebrations in the UK roofing industry, this latest award nomination exemplifies Polyroof’s reputation for flat roofing excellence, bolstered by market-leading technology, technical expertise, and quality of installation through our network of fully independent roofing contractors.
Announcing the awards on Monday 10th March following a record-breaking number of entries, with manufacturers and contractors alike all vying to have the light shone upon their roofing projects, the judging panel finalised the nominations across a total of 16 categories that cover a multitude of roofing and cladding disciplines.
Recognition of an iconic liquid waterproofing project
Polyroof has been nominated for the Cold Applied Liquid Waterproofing category in recognition for our most iconic project, Spectrum House. Covering a vast 25,000m2, Spectrum House, also known as the Renault Distribution Centre, was designed by the legendary architect and designer, Sir Norman Foster and completed in 1983. The Grade II listed building is a landmark of both architectural and cultural significance, having served as the backdrop in the 1985 James Bond film, A View to a Kill.
Following decades of exposure to the elements, the roof began to deteriorate with the building’s original waterproof covering suffering from various failings including splits, delamination, pooling water, along with general wear and tear. Therefore, urgent rectification was required to not only maintain the function of the building beneath, but also for heritage preservation. Working in conjunction with MAPP Building Consultancy, MLG UK Ltd, and relevant third parties, a thermographic survey of the roof area was conducted to strategically identify the remedial requirements to bring the roof up to an exemplary standard.
Identifying the need to strip areas of the roof that had been affected by water ingress, we specified our leading Protec System to meet the complex requirements of the Spectrum House roof. This cold-applied liquid membrane provides a seamless, joint-free finish that was ideally suited for the roof’s undulating surface and intricate details, such as the 59 suspension anchors and 42 rooflights present. This necessitated an advanced liquid roofing solution to encapsulate the complex detailing and ensure a high performance, long-lasting waterproof finish, that would otherwise be difficult to achieve through less versatile roofing methods.
Leading the way for the liquid waterproofing arena
Speaking of our latest award shortlisting, Craig Holden, Polyroof’s Commercial Manager, said: “Having recently celebrated our 40th anniversary in the liquid flat roofing industry, we at Polyroof are delighted to be celebrating the success of the remarkable refurbishment of Spectrum House at this year’s UK Roofing Awards. This nomination comes as testament to the capabilities of our advanced liquid waterproofing technology, along with the collaborative approach we take towards our flat roofing projects.
“On behalf of Polyroof, I would like to pay special thanks to both MAPP and MLG, who were instrumental to the success of this project. We greatly value the relationships with our approved contractor base and building management partners, endeavouring to achieve excellence in every aspect of our flat roofing projects. From best-in-class technical support, including bespoke specification writing, calculations, and on-site support throughout the project lifecycle, we strive to take on board as many of the challenges and issues associated with the flat roof that we can, freeing up our clients’ time so they can focus their efforts where they are needed most.”
