Polyroof is Shortlisted For Two Prestigious LRWA Awards

Here at Polyroof, we are delighted to announce that we have been nominated for not one, but two prestigious LRWA Awards. Recognising excellence across what is one of the fastest growing sectors in the UK roofing industry, the LRWA Awards provide an opportunity to highlight the utmost in quality, professionalism, and workmanship. Held annually and marked with a glittering ceremony complete with a gala dinner, members of the Polyroof team along with associated independent roofing contractors are looking forward to attending the event on Wednesday 26th March 2025, at the Titanic Hotel, Liverpool.

Liquid roofing manufacturers from across the UK were all vying to make the final cut, with a total of 23 roofing projects being shortlisted into five categories, judged by an independent panel of industry experts against a rigorous criteria, covering installation complexity, aesthetics, problem-solving, and workmanship.

Unveiling the shortlist on 6th January 2025, the LRWA announced that Polyroof has been shortlisted in recognition of two iconic liquid waterproofing projects, Spectrum House and The Savoy Hotel. This comes as testament to our advanced liquid roofing technology and its ability to work in conjunction with the complexities and intricate details often found in flat roof environments. These award nominations would be not possible, however, without the expertise of our network of approved installers, whom we are proud to collaborate with and offer a full support service on Polyroof liquid flat roofing projects.

Find out more about the projects in which we were shortlisted for below:

Liquid Waterproofing Project of the Year >1000m2: Spectrum House, MLG UK Ltd

Spanning an outstanding 25,000m2, Spectrum House, better known as the Renault Distribution Centre, is a landmark not only of architectural but also of cultural significance. Designed by the legendary Sir Norman Foster and completed in 1983, the building’s futuristic design epitomises the high-tech movement of the time with its industrial aesthetic and exposed structural components. In addition to being an operational distribution centre, this Grade II listed building has also become a pop culture icon. Therefore, when the roof began to deteriorate after decades of exposure, choosing the right roofing system was critical – not just for function, but for heritage preservation.

The Protec System was specified for the refurbishment of the vast roof area, owing to its seamless, joint-free finish that is perfect for the roof’s undulating surface and intricate details present. This System not only addressed the waterproofing needs but also helped with the natural movement of the building’s humongous size, along with respecting its historical and cultural importance. Liquid Waterproofing Project of the Year <1000m2: The Savoy Hotel, Capital Roofing Ltd

A pinnacle of British luxury; The Savoy Hotel in London is a globally recognised landmark situated on the Strand, which lies in the heart of Westminster. Due to leaking air conditioning units, which was a direct result of the failed asphalt waterproof covering atop of the canopy roof, the hotel enlisted the help of Capital Roofing Limited to find the root cause of the issue and provide urgent rectification. They discovered the existing asphalt waterproof covering on top of the canopy was in a poor, aged condition, suffering from various failings including cracks as well as slumping.

Due to the live operational environment below, it was imperative that disruption was kept to a minimum. Polyroof’s flagship Protec Evolve System was specified for the waterproofing works, owing to its ultra-low odour properties during installation. This sustainable, cold liquid-applied membrane provides long-lasting waterproofing for a wide range of refurbishment and new build applications. Complete with RapidCure technology for extremely fast applications, with cure times as low as 30 minutes, the system was perfectly placed to accommodate The Savoy’s strict turnaround time. Speaking of our joy at being shortlisted for the LRWA Awards, Polyroof’s Commercial Manager, Craig Holden, said: “As a long-standing leader in the manufacture of liquid waterproofing membranes, we are elated to be starting 2025 with two nominations for the prestigious LRWA Awards. Having recently celebrated our 40th anniversary in business, this latest success further reinforces our dedication to continue leading the way for the liquid waterproofing industry.

“The two projects which have been shortlisted for an award, Spectrum House and The Savoy Hotel, are prime examples of our system technology’s ability to provide long-lasting waterproofing to roofs of all shapes, sizes, and complexities. Our range of liquid flat roofing systems work to create a tough, flexible finish that is impervious to water.

“We very much attribute this success, however, to the partnerships we have built with the Polyroof approved contractors who worked on these projects, MLG UK and Capital Roofing. Our network of independent installers are rigorously trained in the application of our liquid waterproofing systems, striving to ensure the utmost in quality. At Polyroof, we value the relationships with our approved contractors and are proud to support them on projects whenever and wherever they require.”

We are looking forward to attending the LRWA Awards 2025 this coming March. Stay tuned for further updates.
