For the owners of this domestic new build project, a high quality flat roof which could incorporate thermal insulation and long-lasting, fully guaranteed waterproofing system was required. They client also wanted a glazed rooflight solution and had a second lower roof areas that was to be used as a recreational space.

Following discussions with Cure Roofing, a Polyroof approved contractor based in South Yorkshire, the use of the Protec Warm Roof system was decided upon.

A key advantage of the Protec Warm Roof system, which enabled Cure Roofing to carry out a rapid installation, is its use of a PU adhesive. There was no need for the use of mechanical fixings, which can become awkward and time consuming when installing thick insulation such as the 190mm that was required to achieve the target 0.12 W/m2K U-Value.

Once the insulation was bonded, the BBA and ETA certified Protec system in Chromite Grey was applied directly to the top layer insulation boards. By eliminating the need for a carrier layer above the insulation, such as OSB3 or felt, the costs, height & weight of the roof and the installation times are kept to a minimum.

Following completion of the Protec membrane, high-quality artificial turf was bonded using PU adhesive over the lower level flat roof area, creating an attractive area for the family to use that enhanced the aesthetics of the building. The main roof area was finished with the installation of flat glazed rooflights, helping to create a modern, sleek and attractive roof design that greatly impressed the client.
