Simulated Zinc Finish to Main Roof Area
The criteria for the roof of this prestigious apartment block in Richmond, Surrey, required a warm roof to current regulations and a guaranteed waterproofing system that could replicate the appearance of zinc sheets.
Polyroof’s Protec system ticked all of these boxes and was chosen for the works. The first stage was to install the insulation and a plywood deck to which Polyroof GRP Standing Seam trims were fixed. The Protec system was then applied to the whole roof area, encapsulating the standing seam trims and the PV stanchions, to provide a fully seamless and flexible waterproofing membrane that faithfully reproduced the look of zinc at a fraction of the cost.
Green Roof and Balcony Areas
Another roof area was to be finished with a green roof design to provide an attractive space for the residents to overlook. There were also large balcony areas that the client wished to finish with paving slabs to comnplement the appearance of the building. The client needed a waterproofing solution that was not only durable and long lasting but, being a fully covered application, needed to be maintenance free to avoid costly and disruptive temporary removal works.
The Protec system membrane is totally maintenance-free - making it especailly ideal for applciations where the membrane is covered. Furthermore, the BBA states that when used in covered applications "the (Protec) system can provide an effective barrier to the transmission of liquid water and water vapour for the design life of the roof in which it is incorporated".
